What's in your fridge? (Day 042)
[left over from last week's upload problem]

What's in your fridge? (Day 042)

Cat food, chocolate syrup, cookie dough, insulin...I'm sure there is some protein in there somewhere. I wonder what is in the veggie drawer. (2/18/2007)

The Makeup Conspiracy (Day 043)

The Makeup Conspiracy (Day 043)

Tell me again why women are expected to wear makeup? I hate Hate HATE taking off mascara. Don't much like putting it on in the first place, either. Makes me sneeze. (2/19/2007)

Why it's hard to work at home (Day 044)

Why it's hard to work at home (Day 044)

Excuse me, I am trying to work here! (2/20/2007)

A vacuum just for pets. Who knew? (Day 045)

A vacuum just for pets. Who knew? (Day 045)

Did you know Dyson makes different vacuums for different cleaning needs? This one is especially for houses with pets. (2/21/2007)

Even Prius' need regular service (Day 046)

Even Prius' need regular service (Day 046)

My dealership has free Wi-fi, coffee, cookies, and they do my service in an hour while I wait...with my laptop and cookies. Then they deliver my freshly washed car right to me. It almost feels like Vegas! (2/22/2007)

Spook ~10/1989 - 2/23/2007 (Day 047)

Spook ~10/1989 - 2/23/2007 (Day 047)

My 18ish-year-old cat Spook this morning, the day I had her euthanized. She lived a good, long life. Rest in peace my little poop monster. (2/23/2007)

Sweaters are for gettin' cozy (Day 049)

Okay, I cheated on this one. I actually took in on Friday but it was too cute not to post. This puppy is a sick little guy who was at the vet but he is getting better. I'm sure it's the sweater that is helping. (2/25/2007)

Uh...salad anyone? (Day 029)

Uh...salad anyone? (Day 029)
Have you ever seen a salad like this? Me neither. Looks easy to make, though.(2/05/2007)

Death of a tree (Day 030)

Death of a tree (Day 030)
We had the last backyard shade tree cut down today. Funeral services were minimal. I read a poem. The cats peed on the stump. (2/06/2007)

Death of a wireless mini-mouse (Day 031)

Death of a wireless mini-mouse (Day 031)
I loved this wireless mouse except when I had to change the batteries. Then I hated it. I could never get it open. During the last battery change, I guess I, uh, was not as gentle as I should have been. I am not sure where that tiny black speck you see at the bottom of the photo comes from. All I know is the top will no longer stay on so the mouse is unusable. Dammit. (2/07/2007)

Universal signal for "Help! I am trapped in the closet and can't get out!" (Day 032)

Universal signal for
Someone of feline persuasion snuck into my closet when I wasn't looking. I am not sure how long he was in there but I never did hear any meowing. I just walked in and found the rug like that. When I opened the door, he was napping. Of course. (2/08/2007)

Abstract wall hanging (Day 033)

Abstract wall hanging (Day 033)
The PTBs hired a professional to decorate the new office. This is a wall hanging clients see as they walk down the hall. It is actually a group of giant leaves but I decided to go for "abstract." (2/09/2007)

There be kitties here (Day 034)

There be kitties here (Day 034)
I don't know why I bother to clean my desk. New kitty paw print trails show up almost immediately. (2/10/2007)

Sleeping Spookers (Day 035)

Sleeping Spookers (Day 035)
The ancient old thing is still going strong. I have discovered she likes baby food. The protein/sodium/etc. ratios may not be ideal but, hey...she is eating. (2/11/2007)

Baby Boy, poor sick kitty

Day 008: Baby Boy, poor sick thing
1/15/07: Baby Boy is my sister's cat. He is dying of kidney failure, poor little guy. He is the reason my sister has cats in the first place. He was a stray who stared at her through her sliding glass door until she broke down and fed him. You just know the day she did it he thought, "Suck-ah!"

Jean-Luc guards the tools

Jean-Luc guards the tools
1/16/07: From starship captain to getting peed on by cats from the knees down. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Lace Muscat Blanc

Day 010: Lace Late Harvest Muscat Blanc, 2005 Alexander Valley, de Lorimier Winery
1/17/07: Lace, Late Harvest Muscat Blanc, 2005 Alexander Valley, de Lorimier Winery. A delightful treat.

Winter has come to the San Joaquin Valley

Day 011: Winter has come to California's Central Valley
1/18/07: Those twigs-on-a-stick are normally a beautiful red, uh, trailing rosebushy thing. Like I know plants! All I know is it is pretty. Please come soon, Spring.

San Joaquin Valley, land of trees and power lines

Day 012: San Joaquin Valley, land of trees and power lines
1/19/07: The last 10 miles of my commute are a straight shot down a loooooooong country road. I would tell you how many orchards I pass but I cannot count that high.

Happy Birthday, Kathryn!

Day 013 (3): Happy Birthday, Kathryn!
1/20/07: Today is my seester's birthday. Just ignore the part where the cake looks like it was made by a 12 year old. With Barbie candles, no less. Heh.

Spook's Hidey Hole

Spook's Hidey Hole
1/21/2007: Spook has a new favorite sleeping spot under my desk. I noticed her wander in and out of there a lot so I put an old blanket down and - voila - Spook's Hidey Hole was born. She is ancient (~17) and dying (kidney failure-what is it with cats and kidney failure?) so I try to make life easy for her. She still eats, drinks, and purrs, so all is well these days.

365 Day Photo Project - The Beginning

I can no longer resist the pull of the herd mentality. I have started my own 365 Day Photo Project. The idea, for those who are unfamiliar, is to commit to taking one photo each and every day for 365 straight days in a row. I started last Monday.

Let There Be Light

70108: Let There Be Light
01-08-2007: Al the handyman added a light fixture to the ceiling fan above my desk. Now I have light when I work. Hooray!

Think Pink

70109: My Sister Likes Pink
01-09-2007: We also have a pink toaster, pink dish towels, pink pot holders, pink kitchen knives, and are contemplating the purchase of a pink kitchen island on wheels.

Time To Recycle

70110: Time to Recycle
01-10-2007: We get a lot of things by mail and have a bad habit of letting our cardboard recycling build up before we finally get the energy to cut it all up into 1'x1' squares (in accordance with City rules, because we are good citizens) before tossing it into the recycling bin. I think it is time.

My Desk Drawer

70111: I organized my desk drawer
01-11-2007: It is a sickness, this organizing thing.

Death by Electric Blanket?

70112: Death By Electric Blanket?
01-12-2007: I think one of my two electric blanket controls has a short. It took several tries to get it to turn on and stop flickering. Should I be worried?

Tax Season Approacheth

70113: Tax Season Approacheth
01-13-2007: Self-study continuing education. What a way to spend a weekend.

Slept 'Til Noon

70114: I Slept 'Til Noon
01-14-2007: I slept until noon and had weird dreams. Ain't life grand?

Second Grade Pics

It occurred to me you might want to see the infamous second grade school photos, of which there are three:

grade2_illinois-2

EDWARDSVILLE, ILLINOIS: I started second grade in Illinois, after spending the summer with dear old dad. My sister had spent the school year with him before but this was my first. Previously, I had only spent summers with him, the new wife, and my half-sister. Then he up and died on us in the middle of the school year. How rude.

grade2_reedley-2

REEDLEY, CALIFORNIA: I do not think my mother knew it was picture day. Or maybe she was just too tired and harried to care. My sister and I returned home after dad died, only to find we were not, in fact, returning home. We got off the plane in California rather than the expected Canada and were stuck living with my grumpy grandmother while my mom simultaneously commuted an hour to work every day and tried to find us a place to live.

grade2_atwater-2

ATWATER, CALIFORNIA: First off, please ignore the ink all over the pic. I canna' get it off. Second, it just occurred to me I am the most well-groomed in the first pic, where my evil stepmother dressed me. Well, she only had one kid of her own. The parenting thing was probably still new and fun to her. Meanwhile, my mom was on kid number four, raising two still at home as a single mom because dad was a philandering cad. Poor thing. When this pic was taken, we were living with my auntie and uncle and their four girls in their tiny 1-bathroom house: three adults and six girl-childs with only one bathroom. Thank god it was only a short time before we moved into our own house across town.

God Makes Them Cute So The Parents Won't Kill Them

All I have to say is, "Didn't the kindergarten teacher have a hairbrush?"

To this day my hair is flat on the right and poofy on the left. But I do pluck my eyebrows now. That's got to count for something.
