Yes, I changed the masthead again. And again, I used an old one from 2006, back when I used to change them every month.
Before I got tired and just didn’t care anymore.
No wait, I do care. It is just that months go by so darn fast these days. [Insert mental image of me as an old person, shuffling across the floor at a snail’s pace.] Before I know it, it is time for another banner and I just don’t have the energy to come up with a new idea much less sit down and finagle with Photoshop to do it.
I believe this is the first sign of the apocalypse. Or getting old. Whichever.
It was time for a banner change but, being lazy and decidedly uncreative – and out and about all weekend – I decided to recycle an old October masthead.
Because I like it.
And because it was one of the first I made all by meself like a growed up person and I had such fun doing it.
I feel the need for a change on this blog and would dearly love your input. What would like to see? What do you see now that you do not use or that does not work the way you want it to or you just don’t like for whatever reason?
I am talking about sidebars and their content, mainly.
Should I bring back a blogroll?
Should I bite the bullet and learn CSS so I can more fully customize the design? I really want to do this but have not yet worked up the courage to abandon the canned design. I am afraid I will screw it up completely and need help getting back from the void.
Should I fix my categories, which are currently boring and stupid and limiting? I have been wanting to do this for quite some time also, but I need to find an easy way to recategorize a group of posts so I am not stuck doing them one by one.
Just a quick housekeeping note that I have closed comments on older posts (about four months back and earlier.) You may have noticed some Spam sneaking in, which I have since deleted. From now on, I will close comments as posts age, randomly and without warning. Take that, you spammers!
Meanwhile, I continue to obsess about buying a house.
And Vincent D'Onofrio.
I suspect Goren will not return on next season's Law & Order: Criminal Intent. When last we saw him, he was sitting in the dark in what had been his mother's hospital room, contemplating her death from cancer on the same day as the execution of his newly revealed serial killer father. Combine that with the exit of Logan's partner followed by Logan sitting down with Eames
as the final shot of the season and, well, I am not an idiot. I see what you are doing, you evil network!
Maybe D'Onofrio is tired of episodic TV. I watch very few shows religiously, but L&O:CI is one of them. I shall miss him so. I do so hope I am wrong.
Really, if you are going to have a day of silence, you need to have it closer in time to the tragedy. Since that day, many additional tragedies have occurred. To focus on the Virginia Tech shootings now, when so many awful things have come before and since, just seems pointless to me.
So in honor of getting on with life and simply trying to have a little fun while we are still on this planet, I offer a new GetSheila masthead. Come on by and check it out, if you have not yet seen it. (Refresh your browser if you still see the old one.)
When faced with the choice of bowing my head and contemplating horrible things or having fun with clipart, I will always choose clipart.
Sorry about that last post, which has now disappeared. It was incomplete and not set to post until the end of the month. I forgot that TypePad is STUPID and does not recognize time-delayed posts when you upload them from ecto, my blogging software. I have to remember to set it as a draft, and then remember to change it to not a draft and set the future posting time.
I have requested TypePad fix this problem several times, as have many other people, but they apparently do not care. And that tells you all you need to know about how TypePad feels about its users.
Technorati is unresponsive. Technorati did they not resolve the problem I mentioned in my November post that I was having with my originally claimed blog http://getsheila.typepad.com/getsheila. But then, how could they when they did not bother to respond to my technical support request nor any of my follow-ups?
Technorati search only half-way works now. I decided to claim my new URL (http://www.getsheila.com) in Technorati to see if that would take care of the problem. I was able to claim the new URL, but when you use the Technorati widget to search this blog, it appears you only get results within the posts I made since I switched to the new domain name. (Just so you know, I started having my problems with my old URL before I redirected traffic to the
new domain name. It was one of the reasons for switching, actually.)
Technorati is unresponsive - Part Deux: I have yet to hear from Technorati regarding the problem I am having claiming my Medium Dreams blog, also mentioned in my November post. I have contacted them numerous times. b5media big-wigs have contacted them. No response. Is Technorati in trouble? Are
they falling apart as a company, with technical support the first thing to go? What other reason could they have for being completely unresponsive?
So the search feature on GetSheila is Technorati again, but it will not find all of my blog posts. I have tried to make my Archives user-friendly, so please scroll through those if you do not find what you are looking for with Search. I am so sorry.
If you know of a good blog search I can add here to my Typepad blog, please let me know. I will switch in a heartbeat.
