Remember me bitching about the recyclers changing the rules so you can only recycle plastics number 1 and 2 when they used to take up to number 7?
Well…WELL…now they say they only accept bottles and jugs: no tubs, no plastic bags, even if they have a number 1 or 2. Here’s the snippet from this month’s newsletter:
Not only are plastic grocery bags a number 2, so are plastic Taco Bell bags. I love my Taco Bell. Do you think Raley’s would notice if I snuck some tiny Taco Bell bags into their plastic grocery bag recycling bin?
I see I am going to have to completely change my grocery shopping habits. A quick perusal of my refrigerator discovered none of these plastic containers are a 1 or a 2:
- Cottage cheese
- Yogurt
- Spreadable real butter
- Fake butter
- Sugar-free Jell-O pudding
- Sour cream
- Cream cheese
- Various shredded and grated cheeses in tubs
- Snack-sized fruit cups
- Peaches in a full-sized plastic jar
- Clear plastic strawberry container with drainage holes
I suspect it’s going to be hard to find cottage cheese in an ecologically friendly container.
Bother.
