You Might Be a Redneck If...
Thinking about running an extension cord from a working outlet in another room to power the TV and cable box in the living room until I get the circuit breaker situation resolved.
Wondering how redneck that would make me.

I'm redneck enough to have run three phone cords (using that stick on cover tubing) from the downstairs, through a vent, and around the walls of my bedroom so I could have my computer there.
But as long as you have a cord rated for the power you are using, you shouldn't have a problem if you run a temp cord to the living room. I would recommend you cover it with a rug or something so you don't trip, though!

"Wondering how redneck that would make me."
Wonder no more dear... You live in Merced... in the suburbs... I'm afraid the writing's on the wall.
Or in your case, the sunburn is on the neck.

You might want to redo the link to "Still alive, so far." When I clicked on it, under "post a comment," it said "you are now logged in as GetSheila." Had I been in a more manic mood, I might have done something cheeky.
I realize you are in a home improvement jag, so my next comment is way off topic. I think it's dangerous to leave grown women alone watching HGTV, but that's another matter.
Recommend for your entertainment the website www.icanhascheezburger.com. Seems right up your alley.
As to your red neck, you will always be my favorite Okie Californian!

G: That login thing is weird. Must be a TypeKey glitch. As for the LOLCats website (cheezeburger), I never miss a post! I have them in my feed reader. They have some funny sister sites, too: Pundit Kitchen (political humor), FAILblog, etc. Check out the "MoreLOLZ" links at the top of their website page.

If you think Sheila is a redneck for living in Merced, you need to come visit me. 10 acres down a dirt road, 5 horses, 15 chickens, tractor, ATV, and my idea of a fun vacation is to go camping with the horses for days at a time, getting hot, sweaty and dirty and taking sponge baths out of a bucket :-D

I would LOVE to come visit you - I'm always up for a little redneck fun!
(Provided we're talking THINKING, live and let live rednecks such as yourself - not the types in my sister's neighborhood in TN!)
In the end I suppose I'll always be a valley boy at heart - sort of an honorary redneck.

"you will always be my favorite Okie Californian!"
As a native Californian who has observed okies in a number of states known for the breed, there are no (or very few) okie Californians.

writtenwyrdd, you've apparently never been to the section of Stockton known locally as "Okieville" for the large numbers of Okiehomians who moved there Grapes-of-Wrath style, including my husband's grandparents :-D
JCW: actually the Coeur d'Alene/Sandpoint area is very eclectic and free thinking. Lotsa neo-hippies, lots of openly gay people, nobody really cares. Even the main group of neo-nazis moved out some years ago.
But when you go down a lot of the back roads and see how some of these people still live, you think "inbreeders" and expect to hear the banjo music from Deliverance playing :-D At the local farmer's market there used to be (maybe still is) a man selling eggs and chickens, who belonged to some obscure, repressive little religious sect, he had SEVENTEEN children (I am amazed his wife was still alive) and lived in a plywood-and-tarp shack out in BFE with no electricity. :::shudder::: We discovered this because I had ordered a farm-raised turkey from them one Thanksgiving at my husband's request, and my husband went to the farm to pick it up. We still joke about that "racing turkey", I don't know what breed it was but it was as lean as a Thoroughbred racehorse :-D Even the non-broad-breasted ones we raised here last year weren't that long and lean.
