Turkey Day Favorite
My favorite food on Thanksgiving has got to be candied yams. Lots of brown sugar and butter on top of blended, whipped, or otherwise smashed up yams. None of those giant yam chunks for me, thank you. Although I am particular about my yams, they do not actually have to be yams. Sweet potatoes are just fine, too. In fact, I am not sure I know the difference. Yams are orange and sweet potatoes are yellow on the inside, right?
What's your favorite Thanksgiving Day dish? And don't feel you have to limit yourself to just one. Do you prepare it or does somebody else do it best so all you have to do is show up and bring the wine?

Sheila - Have you been hanging out with my mother? That's probably her favorite Thanksgiving dish - way too sweet for me.
Give me the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy!
Happy Thanksgiving to Sheila, Jen Bo, and the growing cast of characters at GetSheila.*

Turkey & gravy - DARK MEAT!!!
It's funny, you can buy turkey thighs and roast them and they never taste the same as when they come off the whole roasted bird.

JennBo: Those next day turkey sandwiches sound divine. I am so going to do that this year!
G: I was actually thinking about the trademark thing the other day. Actually, I was thinking I should somehow "register" it to "protect" it but didn't know what the heck that entailed. I think I need to come visit. Or send an email. And I can only have a small amount of the "little bit of yams with my brown sugar and butter" but that way it lasts for DAYS. Yum!
JCW: My mom is a dark meat person, too. It works out perfectly. I get the white mean, mom gets the dark meat, and sis gets a little of both. Thanksgiving Nirvana.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

STUFFING!!
I am a stuffing-o-holic. I always had my mom make double so I could eat it twice a day for the next week. Just obsessed with the stuff.

Regarding this year's T-Day:
WE'RE GOING TO DIZZYLAND! Buffet at The Hotel, with our favorite Anteater and Mustang. Enough variety to please the most discriminating palate. Enough food to choke a small army.
No leftovers, though. Drat. Maybe I could stuff something in my pockets. . .

I just took the bags of innards out of the turkey and put them on the stove to cook. How did people figure out what parts are edible and what parts aren't? Ick.

The inards? Ew.
My grams always used the liver, but not the giblets. Not that I could tell the difference.

My succulant $75.00 rib roast that turned out so fabulous when initially cooked, reheated poorly...overcooked and tough. Mary's turkey - a deep fried number she ordered from Honeybaked was GOD AWFUL! No one wanted to eat the thing! It tasted freezer burnt and her husband actually felt sick after the meal.
It was a "bad food" Thanksgiving..
At least the company and the cocktails were good!
Note to all of you: NEVER order a turkey from Honeybaked hams! Also, never prepare prime rib that has to be reheated.

I am stuffed. And yes, I am typing this the day AFTER Thanksgiving, and am still stuffed.
I fell in love with stuffing all over again (and thought of Arieanna.)
I forgot to have cranberry sauce (and thought of Hsien.)
I watch my mother do things with those horrifying parts I pulled out of the inside of the turkey (and thought of JennBo.)
I saw a commercial for Dizzyland (and thought of G.)
Then I read JCW's comment late that night and laughed and laughed and laughed. And made a vow never to buy a deep friend turkey from Honebaked Ham.

A shocking Honeybaked update!!!
Last night we went to see Kathy Griffin at the Warfield in S.F. - trust me, when this woman comes to your town, GO SEE HER! Anyhow, we got home late and flipped on the TV to see a news report that Honeybaked is RECALLING it's mail order turkeys!
How nice that they do the recall
AFTER everyone already ate them the day before...
Good thing most of us ate very little to none of it and Mary had the good sense to throw away the leftovers!
