What is a meme? Wikipedia defines it as a replicator of cultural information that one mind transmits to another mind, verbally or by demonstration. I don't really see how the questionnaire below qualifies as a meme, but I have stumbled on many instances of it on other blogs so who am I to judge? Here is my I-am-just-a-sheep-who-must-follow-the-herd meme:
Things you may not have known about me….
Four jobs I have had in my life:
- Burger Flipper Extraordinaire at Foster Freeze. Best. Burgers. Evahhhh. At least when I was cooking. Except for the time the grill cleaning guy left a crevice-cleaner in the form of an opened-up paper clip on the shelf above the veggie containers and, unbeknownst to me, it fell into the lettuce, where I picked it up along with a handful of lettuce and deposited it onto a burger. (Amazingly enough, we avoided a lawsuit and nobody got fired.)
- Full-Charge Bookkeeper for a crooked real estate developer who subsequently went to jail. I got to see real-life examples of the forbidden terms I learned in my college accounting courses, like "check kiting" and "embezzlement".
- Accountant/tax accountant for small local public firms, giant global public firms, and companies in industry.
- Portal Content Manager for a Silicon Valley high-tech manufacturing company that was also a sweatshop.
Four movies you would watch over and over:
- Serenity
- Galaxy Quest: Favorite line - Gwen DeMarco: "Whoever wrote this episode should DIE!"
- Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
- Singin' in the Rain
Four places you have lived:
- Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
- Edwardsville, Illinois
- Miami, Florida (For three whole months during the summer / hurricane season. I was actually evacuated once. Fun!)
- Atwater/Merced/Fresno/Milpitas/Fremont/San Jose, California
Four TV shows you love to watch:
- Law & Order: Criminal Intent - I drool over Vincent D'Onofrio and have no idea why. I am not normally attracted to big guys. It is a mystery.
- Medium - Spooky and funny and thought-provoking and has one or two hot guys, to boot.
- Serenity - I know it was cancelled. I know there are only about 12 episodes or some other ridiculously small number. I LOVE IT ANYWAY. I watch it over and over and over any time I see it is on.
- South Park - I LOVE THIS SHOW. It's so stupid and juvenile, and then they pull a social message out of their butts right at the end every time. And Kyle the Jew reminds me of my friend Jennifer. In a good way. That has nothing to do with him being Jewish.
Four places you have been on vacation:
- Las Vegas
- Paris, France
- London, England
- Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Websites / blogs you visit daily or often:
- Woulda Coulda Shoulda and Suburban Bliss - These two ladies tie for first place in my daily must-reads. They never fail to make me laugh.
- Scobleizer - Tech geek blog celebrity. Funny, plus lots of geeky/techie info.
- The Zero Boss - I have no idea why I like him. Funny. Smart. Socially conscious. And he linked to me once. :)
- Lifehacker - Hacks to make your life just a little bit easier.
Four of my favorite foods:
- Potato in any form: baked potato, smashed potatos, garlic smashed potatos, french fries, latkes...I feel a bit like Bubba Blue from Forest Gump. Be thankful I didn't say shrimp.
- Crab, especially when someone else gets its all out of the shell for me.
- Cheese! I just looove cheese, rawwly I do. Cave-aged Gruiyere...yum!
- Crispy fried finger foods of any sort.
Four places I would rather be right now:
- In my 16 year old thin, athletic body but retaining all the knowledge I have today.
- In bed with my cats Turvy and Tiger both at the same time, which never happens because one always chases the other off.
- Getting a full-body massage followed by a European facial followed by another massage.
- At a gathering of my peeps.
Friends I think will comment:
- JennBo
- G
- J. C-W
- Natalie
Favorite songs/music:
- American Pie - by Don McLean
- Oh Yeah - by Yellow (featured in the bedroom-hopping scene in the Michael J. Fox movie The Secret of My Success)
- Janie's Got a Gun - by Aerosmith
- If I Only Wanted To - by Melissa Etheridge
Favorite Colors:
- Green
- Various shades of purple
- Black (it's so slimming!)
- Vivid pink, like the color of my favorite toenail polish: You're a Pisa Work
Favorite Author:
- Stephen King, but I have only read a few of his books because he scares the bajeebies out of me!
- J.K. Rowling
- James H. Schmitz
- C.J. Cherryh
Moments I will never forget:
- Meeting my Grandma McCapes 1971: I loved watching The Beverly Hillbillies TV show, so naturally I called her "granny" when I met her...for which she yelled at me. Her 7 year old granddaughter whom she had never before met (at least that I could remember). Her very shy 7 year old granddaughter. Needless to say, we never became close.
- Challenger space shuttle explosion 1986: I was in college back then. I was dressed in my crappy blue smock for work at Foster Freeze but it wasn't quite time to leave yet. I had the living room curtain rail head on the floor and was in the process of re-attatching the individual curtain hooks into their tiny plastic receptacles when the breaking news cut into whatever I was watching. It was surreal, watching the explosion and the footage of all the people on the ground looking up and not quite understanding yet what had happened.
- World Trade Center destruction 2001: I was in college...again. I had decided to go back to school for a Master's degree. I saw the news coverage before I left for class but, since I was way over on the west coast, it was like watching war coverage in some distant country. It didn't occur to me that classes would be cancelled in California. It didn't occur to a lot of people. It took me and my entire math class 45 minutes and several attempted calls from the classroom to the office to find out our teacher wasn't coming and there would be no class. Couldn't they have left a note? It was a horrible tragedy but I was indifferent to it because I have no connection to New York. I was indifferent to it just like most Americans are indifferent to similar tragedies that occur in other countries. Am I the only one who sees no difference? It is only the politicians and the small-minded who distinguish between "us" and "them." Why is it more awful for American's to have died at the WTC than it is for Londoners to have died in the Underground bombing? It is a mystery to me.
- Putting my cat Squeak to sleep 2006. Holding her little head. Holding her tiny, lifeless body. Wishing I had prepared better.
Well that's not a happy note to end on! How about this:
One final thing that you probably don't know about me is...
I have this strange tick where I blow when I'm driving. I'm not blowing on the steering wheel or blowing at a piece of lint, I just subtly purse my lips and express a small amount of air. I had no idea I did this until my friend and passenger pointed it out to me one day. I have since tried to break the habit yet still it persists. I AM A DORK. (I'm pretty sure you knew that last part, but probably not the strange blowing on nothing for no apparent reason part.)
