Turvy woke me at 6:00 this morning.
THAAAAT'S right, he came home last night just as I put the finishing touches on my "Have you seen Turvy?" flier, to be distributed the following morning by hand to every house in the neighborhood. It has two photos of Turvy (to be sure to capture his "good" side), a map showing where he lives (to indicate the general vicinity of where he might be found), and a plea for people to check their garages and outbuildings in case he somehow got trapped inside and was currently dying of starvation, dehydration, and heat stroke.
As I contemplated which version to use (color vs. black & white), I heard the "fwip!" of the kitty door followed by a familiar "REOWWWRH!...Ruow?" Translation: "I'm ho-ome! Where are you?" He looked fine. No scars. No blood. No excess dirt. No marked weight loss. And he didn't even make a beeline for the water bowl. Where the hell has he been all week? And why does he torture me so? Is it quid pro quo for all the times I leave him to go into the outside world for...say, work or shopping? Is it payback for the weekend trips I make where I'm gone for one or more nights? Or is it perhaps a comment on all the strangers that come by and disrupt his routine, like gardeners and house cleaners? We have had a lot of extra activity lately for our better-late-than-never spring cleaning. Hm...
Whatever the reason for his disappearance, I'm just happy he's home. I immediately loved on him, fed him special wet food, brushed him, and later booted Tiger off the bed when he threatened to usurp Turvy's position. This morning I got up at 6:00 to feed him and love on him some more. Yes, I am completely whipped. I don't deny it. I'm not ashamed! I AM A KEPT WOMAN. (Or am I the keeper? Let's see, I pay for the food and the vet and the toys and the...OH WHATEVER! Shut UP, imaginary voice of reason. You are a royal pain in the ass!)
As much as I am enjoying Turvy's homecoming, something tells me it won't be long before he wanders off again. It's just a funny feeling I get when I look at him sometimes. I don't know. What do you think?
